From the Preface... "It is with profound gratitude that Praxis Research Institute makes available this latest addition to the Gnosis trilogy by Boris Mouravieff: a comprehensive reference guide to the English translation of the French original three-volume work, including a subject index, a person index, and the diagrams...

"By including all terms in the French index, referenced to all three volumes, this index provides an invaluable resource for readers of Gnosis in English, but it goes beyond the French index in several ways, warranting publication as a separate volume. The English index includes references to names of individuals mentioned in the books and contains the complete set of diagrams from the recent French edition. Also, each topic has a list of subheadings where the page numbers are found, and many topics have associated key words that connect to other related subjects.

"Readers familiar with Gnosis, especially those wishing to go further in their study of the series, will immediately recognize the value of having lists of associated terms and subheadings to facilitate further investigation of specific topics. Equally valuable, however, the enriched references provide both long-term readers and newcomers to Gnosis a sense of the work’s breadth and depth. Similarly, the person index will offer scholars approaching Gnosis access to the author’s wealth of references, while the complete set of diagrams will allow visually-oriented readers an overview of the way ideas in the books have been formulated schematically.

"Taken together, this index encapsulates Mouravieff’s work as a ‘holistic’ study, addressing topics with the multiple means necessary for the teaching embedded in the books to truly take hold. As the index indicates, rather than providing readers with a linear exposé of topics in a well-defined and rigid order, Mouravieff uses what has become known as the ‘scatter-method,’ approaching significant ideas from a diversity of angles, coming back to them over and over, and building upon each topic throughout the three volumes so that, by the end, readers not only know the topic in all its richness - something of value on its own - but they may also begin to understand it, recognizing its truth and relevance to their lives. As Mouravieff explains, knowledge must lead to understanding in order to be applied through savior-faire (in English, ‘know-how,’ or practical knowledge). Ultimately, savior-faire must come from experience - obtained ideally under the guidance of a teacher or master. However, since these are not always available, the author has pursued every means possible to help readers advance on their own."
